Just as McCarthy destroyed liberals through the same means using accusations of communism, so now the charge of fascism or its relative – anti-Semitism – is being used.
The reckless charge of anti-Semitism is dangerous to Jews.
Its widespread use for political ends with tenuous evidence simply deadens the listener’s sensitivity too often.
It is crying wolf.
McCarthy has also long sought to remove “Squad” member Omar from her seat on the Foreign Affairs Committee, accusing the Minnesota Democrat of making antisemitic comments in the past.
Omar, who was first elected in 2018, has ignited a series of controversies over her anti-Israel positions and has faced other accusations of antisemitism over specific comments.
Omar responded to McCarthy’s pledge to strip her committee assignments on Sunday, accusing the speaker of being hypocritical.
Israeli dual citizen
House Republicans are taking aim at the Biden administration; the Democratic Party, including their own Democratic colleagues; and a wide range of governmental institutions deemed “tyrannical.”
They will use their investigative and subpoena power to destroy individuals, disrupt the process of government, attack opponents, and delegitimize the very institutions of liberal democracy.
And they will be aided, abetted, and incited by a far-reaching network of media institutions and social media platforms.
They cannot govern. But they do not seek to govern.
They seek to lay waste to what they despise, and especially anything that is “foreign” to their perverse idea of “American Greatness.”
What they despise is nothing less than political pluralism and liberal democracy itself.
Blinken was a foreign policy advisor for Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign and was appointed his Secretary of State. During the campaign, he sought to reassure Jewish groups that Biden was a strong supporter of Israel with a long history of knowing its leaders.
McCarthy Condemns Antisemitism at Berkeley Law School
Today, Congressman Kevin McCarthy condemned the antisemitic behavior occurring at U.C. Berkeley’s School of Law and the institution’s failure to promote a safe campus for all students.
This fall, several student groups made the decision to ban certain speakers from events. Berkeley Law has failed to address these actions.
Congressman McCarthy released the following statement:
“Antisemitism is a scourge on our society and has no place in American life.
For decades, Israel has not only been our greatest ally in the Middle East, but one of our greatest allies on the world stage.
It is shameful that Berkeley Law, an institution which, on its own website, touts itself as “one of the most vibrant places on the planet,” would allow this type of prejudiced behavior to take place on its campus without any consequences for involved parties.
“Berkeley Law must step up and immediately condemn these student groups to stop antisemitic behavior on campus.
To turn a blind eye and continue to allow this blatant discrimination is un-American and runs directly counter to our values.”
McCarthy says Israel has right to defend itself amid deadly unrest
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., on Tuesday said Israel has a right to defend itself while also condemning Hamas as violence and unrest continue to intensify in the region.
McCarthy’s comments come amid some of the worst fighting in years.
Back-and-forth armed strikes between Palestinian militants and Israeli forces have surged following weeks of tension in the Israeli-occupied West Bank and demonstrations by Arab communities.
The situation escalated in the wake of the potential eviction of Arab families from an East Jerusalem neighborhood, reigniting a sensitive issue in the region: land ownership.
In a statement, McCarthy blamed Hamas, which governs Gaza, for the escalations.
“These rocket attacks confirm once again that there is no moral equivalency between Israel and Hamas,” he said.
“Hamas seeks in no uncertain terms to destroy Israel and murder its people. They are a terrorist organization that feeds off conflict and hatred.”
The California congressman said that Hamas would “never accept peace” and “will sink to the lowest levels of inhumanity to promote violence, including attacking Israeli civilians and civilian targets and using Palestinian women and children as human shields.
McCarthy commended the Biden administration for condemning Hamas and affirming Israel’s right to self-defense. He also said Biden should stand with Israel at the United Nations and block all efforts by the Security Council to condemn its military actions.
