In America, we have an oligarch problem, and it’s much bigger than the oligarch problem that Putin faced when he became president in 2000.

The entire West is now in the grips of billionaire elites who have a stranglehold on the media, the political establishment and all of our important institutions.

In recent years we have seen these oligarchs expand their influence from markets, finance and trade to politics, social issues and even public health.

The impact this group has had on these other areas of interest, has been nothing short of breathtaking.

Establishment elites and their media not only stood foursquare behind Russiagate, the Trump impeachment, the BLM riots and the January 6 fiasco, they also had a hand in the Covid hysteria and the host of repressive measures that were imposed in the name of public health.

What we’d like to know is to what extent this group is actively involved in the shaping of other events that are aimed at transforming the American Republic into a more authoritarian system?

In other words, are the mandated injections, the forced lockdowns, the aggressive government-implemented censorship, the dubious presidential elections, the burning of food processing plants, the derailing of trains, the attacks on the power grid, the BLM-Antifa riots, the drag queen shows for schoolchildren, the maniacal focus on gender issues, and glitzy public show-trials merely random incidents occurring spontaneously during a period of great social change or are they, in fact, evidence of a stealthily orchestrated operation conducted by agents of the state acting on behalf of their elite benefactors?

We already know that the FBI, the DOJ and the intel agencies were directly involved in Russiagate –which was a covert attack on the sitting president of the United States.

So, the question is not “whether” these agencies are actively involved in other acts of treachery but, rather, to what extent these acts impact the lives or ordinary Americans, our politics and the country?

But before we answer that question, take a look at this quote from from a recent interview by Colonel Douglas MacGregor:

I was reading a document that was authored by George Soros over 10 years ago in which he talks specifically about this all-out war that would ultimately come against Russia because he said this ‘was the last nationalist state that rests on a foundation of orthodox christian culture with Russian identity at its core.

That has to be removed.

So I think that the people who are in charge in the west and the people in charge in Washington think they have successfully destroyed the identities of the European and American peoples, that we have no sense of ourselves, our borders are undefended, we present no resistance to the incoming migrants from the developing world who essentially roll over us as though we owe them a living and that our laws do not count.

Thus, far I would say that is an accurate evaluation of what we’ve been doing. And I think that’s a great victory for George Soros and the globalists, the anti-nationalists; those who want open borders what they call it an “Open Society” because you end up with nothing, an amorphous mass of people struggling to survive who are reduced to the lowest levels of subsistence …

(Soros) even goes so far as to talk about how useful it would be if it was east Europeans whose lives were expended in this process and not west Europeans who simply won’t take the casualties.

This is not a minor matter.

The reason I transcribed this comment from MacGregor was because it sums up the perceptions of a great many people who see things the same way.

It expresses the hatred that globalist billionaires have toward Christians and patriots, both of which they see as obstacles to their goal of a borderless one-world government.

MacGregor discusses this phenom in relation to Russia which Soros sees as “the last nationalist state that rests on a foundation of orthodox Christian culture with Russian identity at its core.”

But the same rule could be applied to the January 6 protestors, could it not?

Isn’t that the real reason the protestors were rounded up and thrown into the Washington gulag.

After all, everyone knows there was no “insurrection” nor were there any “white supremacists”.

The protestors were locked up because they’re nationalists (patriots) which are the natural enemy of the globalists.

The MacGregor quote lays it out in black and white.

Elites don’t believe that nationalists can be persuaded by propaganda,.

They must be eradicated through incarceration or worse.

Isn’t that the underlying message of January 6?

The other underlying message of January 6, is that ordinary people are no longer allowed to challenge the authority of the people in power.

Again, political legitimacy in the US has always been determined by elections.

What January 6 indicates, is that legitimacy no longer matters.

What matters is power, and the person who can have you arrested for questioning his authority, has all the power he needs.

Check out this excerpt from a post on Substack by political analyst Kurt Nimmo:

What Nimmo is saying is that these billionaire elites are now so powerful, that they can openly say they’re going to “transition away from intergovernmental decision-making” (ie– representative government”) to a system of “multi-stakeholder governance.”

If I’m not mistaken, that is a pretty unambiguous declaration of a new form of supra-national government, in which only the billionaire stakeholders have a vote in what policies are implemented.

But isn’t that the way things work already?

On any number of topics from ESG, to digital currencies, to vaccine passports, to AI, to gain-of-function research, to 15-minute cities, to transhumanism, to war with Russia; the decisions are all being made by a handful of people of whom we know every little and who were never voted into office.

And that brings us back to our original question: How many of these oddball events (in recent years) were conjured up and implemented by agents of the deep state to advance the elitist agenda?

This seem like an impossible question since it’s hard to find a link between these dramatically divers events.

For example, what is the link between a Drag Queen Children’s Hour and, let’s say, firebombing a food processing plant in Oklahoma?

Or the relentless political exploitation of gender issues and the January 6 public show trials?

If there was a connection, we’d see it, right?

Not necessarily, because the link might not have anything to do with the incident itself, but instead, with its impact on the people who experience it.

In other words, all of these events could be aimed at generating fear, uncertainty, anxiety, alienation and even terror.

Have the intelligence agencies launched such destabilizing operations before?

Indeed, they have, many times. Here’s an excerpt from an article that will help you to see where I’m going with this.

Anarchic random violence was to be the solution to bring about such a state of instability thus allowing for a completely new system, a global authoritarian order.

In other words, the objective of the operation is to completely disrupt all social relations and interaction, cultivate feelings of uncertainty, polarization and terror, find a group that can be scapegoated for the wide societal collapse, and, then, present yourself (elites) as the best choice for restoring order.

Is this what’s going on?

It’s very possible. It could all be part of a Grand Strategy aimed at “wiping the slate clean” in order to “transition away from intergovernmental decision-making” to a system of “multi-stakeholder governance.”

That could explain why there has been such a vicious and sustained attack on our history, culture, traditions, religious beliefs, monuments, heroes, and founders.

They want to replace our idealism with feelings of shame, humiliation and guilt.

They want to erase our past, our collective values, our heritage, our commitment to personal freedom, and the very idea of America itself.

They want to raze everything to the ground and start over.

That is their basic Gameplan writ large.

The destruction of the state is being carried out behind the cover of seemingly random events that are spreading chaos, exacerbating political divisions, increasing the incidents of public mayhem, and clearing the way for a violent restructuring of the government.

How post-WW2 Israel was created using lands stolen from Palestinians.

Speaker of the House John Boehner invited Netanyahu without asking the White House’s permission

MSNBC anchor Chris Matthews escalated his rage over Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to Congress, Tuesday, hinting that the Israeli prime minister delivered what amounts to a coup.

Appearing on his cable network for analysis, Matthews darkly warned, “This man from a foreign government walked into the United States legislative chamber and tried to take over U.S. foreign policy.”

Israeli agent/ Representative Ileana Ros-Lehtinen didn’t always clap, but that might have been because she was too mesmerized to do anything but listen.

Angered by the address, the cable anchor called the speech “shocking” and blamed both Netanyahu as well as Republicans: “They went into the U.S. Congress to take over U.S. foreign policy today from the President.

It’s a remarkable day when the leaders of the opposition in Congress allowed this to happen.” Speaking of a speech by the leader of one of America’s closest allies, Matthews wondered, “What country in the world would let a foreign leader come in and attempt to wrest from the President control of U.S. foreign policy?”

“But I can guarantee you this, the days when the Jewish people remained passive in the face of genocidal enemies, those days are over.” Now the Zionists turn their genocide to the poor Palestinians who didn’t have anything to do with the Zionist- on- Jew ‘holocaust’.

Even Netanyahu couldn’t help but give his great speech a standing ovation.

The new wave of demonstrations that began on July 14, 2020 was of course not the first against the prime minister.

But unlike previous rounds, the latest wave has been continuing on a weekly basis with tens of thousands of protesters taking to bridges and intersections across the country, with the most vocal taking place directly in front of the Prime Minister’s Residence on Balfour Street in Jerusalem.

The protesters have one thing in common: they all demand that Netanyahu resign over both his criminal cases and his failure to manage the COVID-19 crisis, which have created deep social and political polarization among Israelis.

From the moment the demonstrations began, the Netanyahu family has waged a stubborn campaign in an attempt to criminalize and delegitimize the protesters. They have been accused of anarchy, violence, hypocrisy, arrogance — even defecating at the entry to the Prime Minister’s Residence. Despite these attacks, police violence, constant harassment, and the coronavirus lockdowns, the demonstrations refuse to die down.

The recent events in Washington have once again shown the similarities between Netanyahu and Trump, and serve as a reminder of the degree to which Trump has directly affected politics in Israel in recent years. Like Trump, Netanyahu knows how to spot potential landmines, recover quickly, and turn them into opportunities to throw mud at whomever he perceives as his opponents.

A few hours after the beginning of the insurrection in Washington, at 10:30 p.m. Israel time, Yair Netanyahu, the prime minister’s son, began to send a clear message to his followers: the anti-Netanyahu protesters are no different from those who broke into the Capitol — and they are dangerous. For months, he claimed, they have been threatening to break into the Prime Minister’s Residence and damage it.

Meanwhile, false rumors began circulating among Likud WhatsApp groups, social media sites, and right-wing sites that Antifa and Black Lives Matter activists had infiltrated the Capitol insurrectionists in order to frame the right.

These rumors were orchestrated by all the well-known channels and mouthpieces of the Netanyahu family — whether journalists associated with the family, Twitter users, news anchors, and hardline Netanyahu supporters. The ground was effectively being laid for what was about to come.

Two days later, on Friday night, what began as Netanyahu’s spin became a major news item on Israel’s flagship television stations. The three Friday evening news shows simultaneously broadcasted a shocking report that a week earlier, Netanyahu and his wife Sara were taken by Shin Bet agents to a secure compound in the residence, after protesters broke through a barrier at the entrance. The message was clear: just like in Washington, protesters are trying to breach the cradle of Israeli democracy, with security officials fearing for the lives of the prime minister and his family. Following the investigation, security was reportedly beefed up around the residence.

The media published the information — which they likely received directly from the Netanyahu family’s publicists — without checking its credibility. It was soon discovered that this was spin based on half-truths at most. While the protesters did get closer than usual to the prime minister’s house, they did not break through any barricades — because there were no barricades. They did not break through fences, nor did they climb walls or gates. They certainly were not armed, since these protesters have long ago declared their commitment to nonviolence, even in the face of police brutality. Sources within the police and the Shin Bet later clarified that the incident did not occur as presented by the media.

Needless to say, it is unlikely that anti-Bibi protesters will be storming any buildings should Netanyahu win.
‘Stalinist witch hunt’

Netanyahu’s spin may have been exposed, but the lie has still managed to convince his diehard base of supporters that something nefarious is afoot. They are now claiming they have further “proof” that, like his American counterpart, Netanyahu is being unjustly persecuted by a violent left-wing conspiracy that is trying to oust a sitting prime minister by all means necessary, including through lies, incitement, and silencing.

That is precisely why the decision by Twitter and other media corporations to shut down Trump’s ability to promote fake news led to an outcry among the Israeli right. Just like Trump supporters, the pro-Netanyahu right in Israel views the prime minister as an eternal underdog (even though he has been in power for the past 11 years). The social media shutdown has allowed the right to return to its familiar and beloved perch as the ultimate victim.

“The great advantage of this Stalinist witch hunt, which is now culminating, is that everything is finally on the table,” wrote Erez Tadmor, a prominent right-wing media figure and former Netanyahu spokesperson. “The masquerade is over and even the last of the eternally-astonished, naive, and purist right wingers will have to understand what we have been screaming for years: the left is all about the silencing and persecution of right-wingers to the bitter end.”

Tadmor linked the events at the Capitol to “the Stalinist witch hunt that the Saladin gang [a derogatory nickname for Israel’s Justice Ministry] and the media are conducting against the leader of the right-wing camp.”

Like Trump, who sicced his followers against so-called traitorous Republicans — and even his own vice president — Tadmor’s wrath was mainly targeted at right-wing Israeli politicians who do not openly stand behind Netanyahu. These, Tadmor says, are “the greatest asset of left-wing fascism. They are what enables the violent minority that controls the centers of power to divide and conquer the right-wing majority…”

The following day Tadmor warned:

The fascists of Silicon Valley managed to get Parler off the internet. Other companies are afraid to provide them with servers and cloud services for fear of a violent reaction from Apple, Google, and Amazon.

The left is now fulfilling its fantasy of completely silencing the right on the platforms under its control and suffocating to death any independent platform. Make no mistake, it’s on its way here too.

Ariel Kahana, political correspondent for the Sheldon and Miriam Adelson-owned newspaper Israel Hayom and one of Trump’s biggest supporters in Israel, took the debate to the next level, linking the riot in Washington to Yigal Amir — the Israeli right-winger who assassinated Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin in 1995:

If after the raid on Congress many Republicans went on the defensive and [displayed] regret, now the [social] networks are actually pushing them to unify in the basic struggle for their right to express themselves. According to Kahana’s logic, if only the left had allowed Amir to express himself freely and spread lies, disinformation, and incitement 25 years ago (as was possible until recently on Twitter), he would not have murdered Rabin.
Preparing for the day after

Today, Netanyahu is more vulnerable than ever. He is ruling over a crumbling coalition in the midst of the most serious health and economic crisis Israel has known; he is under constant criticism for his failure to manage the COVID-19 pandemic, and even top Likud members are abandoning him.

Trump Disappointed Netanyahu Declined to Publicly Endorse Him

US President Donald Trump is disappointed that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declined to endorse him ahead of the presidential race with Joe Biden.

American news website Axios reported Wednesday that Netanyahu was ordering ministers from his Likud party to refrain from any public statements on the vote.

Writing for Axios, Israeli journalist Barak Ravid quoted one Netanyahu aide as saying that Trump was disappointed that Netanyahu declined to publicly endorse him during a phone call held before TV cameras on Oct. 23.

During the call to announce a normalization agreement between Sudan and the Zionist entity, Trump asked Netanyahu if “Sleepy Joe” could have sealed such a deal, Ravid said.

“Netanyahu gave a diplomatic answer and said he’d be happy to work for peace with any American partner.

According to Netanyahu’s aide, one of Trump’s advisers told his Israeli counterpart about Trump’s disappointment in an informal conversation,” Ravid wrote in Axios.

“The Israeli side then checked in formally with the White House to see if there was an issue, but was reassured that things were fine,” the Israeli journalist added.

An Iran-focused treaty was to be a key issue on the agenda of hurriedly-arranged talks with Secretary Pompeo, in Lisbon this week – a ‘summit’ that followed in the wake of a notable flock of very high-level, US Defense officials visiting Israel in recent days.

In Lisbon, Netanyahu said that his talks with Pompeo had focused on: 1. Iran; 2. Iran, and number 3: Iran.

The protests in Iran – and the ‘message’ being promoted by the main-stream media which has the “regime” teetering at the brink of collapse, and obliged to use unprecedented violence to quell mass unarmed protests, in the wake of an extraordinarily ineptly managed, fuel-price hike.

What is wrong with this version? Well, what is right is that the hike triggered protests across 100 cities on the Friday, 15 November.

The protests were widespread, and the poorer segments of the population (traditional supporters of the state) were heavily represented. But they were not violent.

The rest of the narrative is wrong.

On the day of the truly mass protests against the fuel hike, no one was killed. And, on the following day, the protestors almost wholly vanished from the streets.

Instead, small groups of pre-prepared, armed and violent activists – not protestors – attacked the strategic hubs of state infrastructure: banks, petro-chemical plants, the gas network, and fuel storage.

These hubs were attacked using rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) and sub-machine guns.

Other groups took out banks (100s of them), armed with guns, swords and iron bars. (One of these latter groups attacked six banks in the space of just one hour.) Nothing here was spontaneous or ‘populist’.

The security forces reacted militarily – arresting and killing many insurgents. And yes – the internet was shut down. But, not the internal Iranian internet – only the global internet.

So, the Iranian equivalent of WhatsApp and Telegraph, and Iranian news channels were still accessible – though the global internet was not.

The overseas anger at the external internet shut-down possibly reflected surprise and irritation that Iran had this capability. Likely, it was not a capacity that Iran was thought to possess.

So what was going on? The Iranian government, it seems, had prior knowledge of plans to stage attacks by ‘activists’, as a part of an (externally formulated and resourced) disruption plan.

But that original plan indicated that the start of these actions would take place early next year.

What seems to have happened is that when the fuel hike protests began, these ‘activists’ were given the go-ahead to ‘seize the moment’.

In other words, they activated all their pre-prepared plans prematurely. This was exactly what the Iranian security forces wanted, and had sought.

It enabled them to ‘smoke out’ the plot, and to arrest, or kill the ring-leaders.

In other words, the Iranian government is not teetering at any ‘brink’ – and later internal Iranian polling shows popular anger directed principally towards the violent gangs, and to a lesser extent, towards the Rouhani Administration, for its mis-handling of the fuel-price hike – but not against the state, per se.

The latter result is not so surprising as older Iranians will remember how the CIA used similar tactics – violent attacks on shops – to escalate the protests in the 1953 overthrow of PM Mosaddegh, in favour of strengthening the monarchical rule of the Shah.

Here is the question: Have the various instigators of these deliberate, violent attacks, ‘come clean’ about the failure of their plan – and of the unraveling (the arrests and disruption) of their Iranian ‘networks’ to President Trump?

Or, is he being presented only with the Netanyahu ‘narrative’ of an Iran cornered ‘and at the brink’?

Iran is not at the brink; its economy is not imploding, and it has not – at least not yet – been cornered in the region.

The arm-wrestling between the US and Iran in Iraq, Syria and Lebanon is engaged, but not over. It is not the moment for Israel ‘to count its chickens’ with respect to an imploding Iran.

The other question then, is with all this swelling max-pressure, financialised ‘war’ operations mounted by the US, Israel, and certain Gulf States, across the Middle East, is there a way out? Or, is it likely to end in war?

The momentum, as matters stand, must be towards escalation. To avoid that disaster, one or other of the parties must row back.

One ‘off-ramp’ might be that whilst Trump (ignominiously) might be ready to contemplate the disruption, the distress and hardship being administered to the people of Lebanon, Iraq and Syria in the interests of weakening Iran, he may not want to proceed to that ultimate step of war.

US polls show no popular appetite for war with Iran. Yet climbing down from his Iran ‘tree’ for Trump, will not be easy. The other off-ramp might be that Netanyahu does not remain as PM for these vital, coming six months to ‘write history’ and seal his legacy.

It would be both “scary and dangerous”, for sure, were Netanyahu (and close associates) to conclude that Netanyahu needs such a war to survive – as Ben Caspit was so clearly warned.

But what is not so likely, is that Iran buckles or implodes.

IAEA lax when it comes to Israel:

Benjamin Netanyahu’s bureau in Jerusalem released a statement criticizing the International Atomic Energy Agency for taking its time with carrying out the demanded inspections of the Iranian sites, that may contain nuclear materials and equipment. The Israeli statement comes after the nuclear watchdog declared its independence to be paramount, in an apparent response to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s description of a “secret atomic warehouse” in Iran.

The Israeli leader’s speech contained no evidence that Iran had restarted its weapons program or in any way violated the limits on nuclear activities like enrichment set up by the deal — which the IAEA has repeatedly confirmed Iran is abiding by.

Israel prime minister declares ’emergency’ because of lower turnout by Likud voters

Haaretz reported earlier Monday that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu aborted last week plans for an unusual military move in the Gaza Strip, which would likely have had far-reaching implications.

He did so at the last moment due to a legal opinion by Attorney General Avichai Mendelblit that the plan required the approval of the security cabinet.

Officials involved in the matter said in response to the report that the attorney general was the one who asked the senior adviser to update election board chief, Justice Hanan Melcer, about a possible escalation.

The dramatic discussion over a potential military action began Tuesday night. A few hours earlier, Netanyahu had gone through a disturbing experience: Gaza-based Islamic Jihad operatives fired a Katyusha rocket at the southern city Ashdod, [Ashdod is occupied Palestine land, the owners are currently locked up in Gaza] where he was speaking at a campaign rally.

After the rally, Netanyahu convened senior defense officials at army headquarters in Tel Aviv for urgent consultations. Afterward, his office distributed a picture of him with the senior officials in question – Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi, Shin Bet director Nadav Argaman, Mossad chief Yossi Cohen, National Security Adviser Ben-Shabbat, Military Intelligence director Tamir Hayman and Netanyahu’s military secretary, Avi Blot. All wore grave faces.

Some of those at the discussion had reservations about the force of a possible attack for two reasons: The possibility of sustaining collateral damage and the risk that a Palestinian response would include massive rocket fire by Hamas and Islamic Jihad that would drag the two sides toward war.

In addition, although nothing was said directly to Netanyahu, some participants were concerned that some of the prime minister’s motives were connected to the election.

The dispute continued during the following two days, as well. Mendelblit played a major role after being brought into the discussions at a later stage. He warned Netanyahu of the legal requirement to involve the security cabinet in any decision that could lead to a war.

But Netanyahu did not bring the decision to a vote before the security cabinet and in the end stopped pressing the heads of the defense establishment to act. Early Wednesday morning the army conducted a minor air raid, hitting several Hamas targets in Gaza without causing any casualties.

In a surprise and potentially far-reaching victory for Benjamin Netanyahu, the Knesset on Monday evening gave the prime minister the authority to declare war or order a major military operation by consulting only the defense minister, and not via a full cabinet vote as the law had previously required.

Sixty-two Knesset members voted the dramatic proposal into law, beating out the 41 opposition MKs who opposed it claiming that the language of the law effectively gives free reign to the prime minister by removing all oversight.

According to the new law, in “extreme circumstances,” military operations can be authorized by the prime minister and defense minister alone and will not need a vote by cabinet ministers.

The law does not specify exactly what those circumstances may be, or who will determine them, saying only that the case will apply, “if the issue is necessary due to urgency.”

The proposal — advanced by Netanyahu since last year — had been rejected earlier in the day by members of two key Knesset committees: Law and Justice, and Foreign Affairs and Defense. It was resubmitted, however, by Likud member and Foreign Affairs and Defense committee chairman Avi Dichter during the second and third readings of a broader amendment and was voted into law as part of that wider legislation.

That wider amendment allows the government to delegate the authority for going to war under normal circumstances, or mobilizing for a major military operation, to a forum made up of “at least half” of all cabinet ministers.

Some eight years ago, Netanyahu and then-defense minister Ehud Barak instructed the chief of staff and head of the Mossad intelligence service to put the army into a state of readiness, only to be told by the latter two that the relevant activity was illegal because it had not been properly approved and could lead to war.

There have, however, been numerous occasions where decisions of a similar nature have been taken by just the Security Cabinet, a smaller forum of ministers tasked with forming policy regarding war and peace, or other smaller forums of ministers.

A committee set up in 2016 under a former National Security Adviser, Major General (res.) Yaakov Amidror, to examine the functioning of the security cabinet and the way it informs and updates ministers recommended bringing the law into line with what he said had become the “normal practice.” In June last year, the cabinet voted in favor of amending the law.

Two opposition lawmakers — Zionist Union’s Omer Bar Lev, an IDF reserve officer with the rank of colonel and a former commander of the elite unit Sayeret Matkal, and Yesh Atid’s Ofer Shelah, a company commander in the reserve Paratroopers Brigade who lost an eye during the 1982 Lebanon War — warned the committees that the wording of the new legislation could enable the prime minister to exclude lawmakers who opposed a military operation and to bring such an operation to a vote in their absence.

They also said that allowing the prime minister and defense minister to decide when a situation is considered “extreme circumstances” would give them full power to go to war without any oversight.

Shelah later charged that coalition members voted “against their own opinions, in the matter of life and death” because of pressure from Netanyahu

“Netanyahu’s contempt for everyone around him and for everything we’ve learned from our many wars has overtaken the recognition of many good and experienced Knesset members,” he said.

The Israel Democracy Institute submitted a series of reservations to the committees about the bill, including requiring the approval of the prime minister, deputy prime minister and ministers of several key departments and suggesting defining which military activities needed cabinet approval and which did not. None of the institute’s recommendations was accepted.

 

Merkel blows off Israel summit

“Our trust in the Israeli government’s commitment to the two-state solution has been fundamentally shaken,” Germany said in the statement. “We hope and look forward to the Israeli government renewing its commitment for the two-state solution to be reached through negotiations, and prove it by actual steps in accordance with the Middle East Quartet’s demand,” it said.

“After the puzzling remarks by several cabinet ministers who have publicly called for the annexation of parts of the West Bank, and are preparing bills for that purpose, this is now a question of credibility,” it said.

Officials in Jerusalem deny receiving any indication from the Germans that the cause of the summit’s cancelation was the expropriation law. A senior Israeli official said last week that only a day after the law passed, Kristof Heusgen, Merkel’s national security adviser, called his Israeli counterpart, Jacob Nagel, the acting head of Israel’s National Security Council, to request information on the new legislation.

The official noted that Heusgen did not voice any discontent regarding the law, but was only interested in understanding its ramifications. According to the official, Nagel explained the issue and even passed on to Merkel’s aide a document outlining the law’s key points. The official also noted that a few days later, Heusgen called again and announced that Merkel wants to postpone the summit because of the election campaign. “The issue of the law was never brought up during the second call,” the official said.
